Prerequisites

  • Windows 10 Media Creation Tool 22h2.exe downloaded
  • Windows 10 ISO file saved to local storage
  • Ventoy USB drive or external hard drive
  • Access to system BIOS/UEFI boot menu
  • Target drive with available space for installation

This tutorial takes about 8 minutes to complete.

Step 1: Download Windows 10 Installation Media

Visit the official Microsoft link to download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool 22h2.exe. Run the executable, accept the licensing terms, and select "Create installation media" to begin.

Step 2: Configure Media Options

Uncheck "Use the recommended options for this PC," select your language and edition, choose 64-bit architecture for full RAM access, and click Next. Select "ISO file" as the media option and choose a save location. Windows 10 Media Creation Tool screen showing the ISO file option selected under Choose which media to use.

Step 3: Prepare Bootable USB with Ventoy

Allow the ISO download to finish, then copy the file into your Ventoy USB drive or external hard drive. Ventoy is recommended as it allows multiple ISOs and keeps the drive usable for storage, so ensure it is set up before proceeding.

Step 4: Boot into BIOS

Restart your computer and enter the BIOS by pressing F9, F10, F11, or F12 depending on your system. Locate the boot priority settings and move your Ventoy drive to the top of the list to ensure it loads first. BIOS boot priority screen with the Ventoy USB drive moved to the top so it loads before Windows.

Step 5: Launch Windows Installation

Save changes and exit the BIOS to boot into Ventoy, then select your Windows ISO and press Enter to boot into normal mode. This will launch the Windows 10 installation setup interface.

Step 6: Set Initial Preferences

Choose your language, time and currency format, and keyboard layout, then click Next and click Install.

Step 7: Select Edition and Skip Key

If you do not have a product key, click "I don't have a product key" as the system will run normally with only cosmetic limitations. Strongly recommend selecting Windows 10 Pro for BitLocker, Remote Desktop, and Hyper-V features. Windows Setup edition selection screen with Windows 10 Pro highlighted, shown after skipping the product key entry.

Step 8: Choose Custom Install

Accept the license terms and select "Custom install (advanced)" to manage your partitions. Find the target drive, double-check to ensure it is correct, and click "New" to allocate all available space. Custom install screen showing the target drive selected and unallocated space ready to apply for the new partition.

Step 9: Confirm Partition Structure

Apply the space allocation and click OK when Windows requests extra partitions for proper boot functionality. Select the primary partition and click Next to begin the Windows 10 Pro installation.

Step 10: Complete Installation and Region Setup

Wait for the installation to finish and restart when prompted. Upon reboot, select your region, confirm the keyboard layout, and skip adding a second layout.

Step 11: Create Offline Account

Select "setup for personal use," click "Offline Account," and choose "Limited Experience" to bypass Microsoft login requirements. Enter a username and create a password if desired, then proceed. Windows Setup account screen with the Limited experience option selected to bypass Microsoft sign-in.

Step 12: Disable Tracking and Customize

Decline recent browsing data, turn off all tracking options, and skip further experience customization. Click "Not Now" for Cortana, and Windows will finalize the setup to bring you to the desktop.
